3rd Marking Period Assignments tzs101-05

For the third marking period, we started off the first assignment (21a,b,c) with the use of Google Sketchup 8. This is a bit more harder for me to use compared to the other applications (Adobe Photoshop, etc.) since I am very unfamiliar with it. For assignment 21A, I just had to explore the tools and create some basic shapes. With the pencil tool, I created a triangle and a square side by side. Then with the circle shape tool, I created a circle. For assignment 21B, I repeated the same steps. After doing so, I made the shapes appear as 3D objects. I did this by using the push and pull tool. It was actually quite interesting to see how this all played out.

Assignment 21C: For this assignment, I continued using the Google Sketchup application. Using the knowledge and experience gained from the previous two assignments, I created a 3D version of my name in bubble letters. Basically, I wrote my name using the pen tool and then made it look 3D by using the push and pull tool. All three parts of assignment 21 was simple, but needed some getting used especially since I was very unfamiliar with the tools. From what I observed, it didn't look as though there were all that many tools compared to Adobe Illustrator and even Adobe Photoshop.

Assignment 22: Once looking at this assignment, I knew that it would be quite difficult to do especially without help from the teacher. However, I had to overcome the obstacle and do the assignment. To create the twelve different blocks, I had to use none other than the pencil tool to create the shapes and then the push and pull tool to make it appear 3D. This was basically what I had learned to do from the previous assignments as shown on the top of this blog.  To create these blocks, I made a whole rectangle 3D version of blocks with the required measurements and cut away parts of it to appear a certain way.

BLOCK 1
dimension: 8' x 5' x 5'

BLOCK 2
dimension: 8' x 5' x 5'

BLOCK 3
dimension: 9' x 4' x 6'

BLOCK 4
dimension: 7' x 6' x 4'

BLOCK 5
dimension: 8' x 5' x 5'

BLOCK 6
dimension: 8' x 5' x 6'

BLOCK 7
dimension: 8' x 5' x 6'

BLOCK 8
dimension: 9' x 5' x 6'

BLOCK 9
dimension: 9' x 4' x 6'

BLOCK 10
dimension: 11' x 3' x 6'

 BLOCK 11
dimension: 8' x 5' x 6'

BLOCK 12
dimension: 9' x 4' x 6'

QUIZ (BLOCK 17)
dimension: 8' x 6' x 5'
For block 17 of the quiz, I basically had to do the same thing as I did for the previous twelve blocks. First, I created a rectangle. Then, I used the push and pull tool to make the rectangle 3D and applied the required measurements. Afterwards, I had to carefully cut away certain parts of the block by using the pen tool to mark the specific areas and then the push and pull tool to remove it.

Assignment 23: For this assignment, I had to apply what I had learned from the previous assignments. Basically, I had to create a gingerbread house where I had to copy the layout of one that was already done by someone else. However, it was quite difficult because there wasn't really any foundations to it. For example, I had to figure out all the dimensions for myself but it was not easy as it sounds because I had no idea where to begin. Overall, making this ginger bread house took a really long time, a lot of hard work and determination. To have the end product, I had to use various tools which includes the eraser, pen, dimensions, arc, circle, rectangle and much more. To create the snowman, I had to create two circles (one along the y-axis and the other along the z-axis) intersecting each other. After that, I had to use the tool: follow me, in order for me to create a sphere. Once doing so, I just copied the sphere and and pasted two more to create the rest of the body. I saved my work as .skp and .jpeg for both the front and back view of the ginger bread house. Then in Photoshop, I put the two pictures of the back and front view together to make it one picture. I then saved that as .psd and .jpeg.

Assignment 24: This assignment was quick and simple. First, I found a winter themed picture and then used Adobe Photoshop to place the picture as the background for my ginger bread house. Afterwards, I followed the steps provided to me to make the house appear a certain a way. The end result would be a 3D image (viewed by 3D glasses) of my ginger bread house. One of the crucial steps in making that possible was to play around with the RGB.

Assignment 25: Surprisingly, this assignment was a lot easier to do than I had expected. In order to create the glowing button, I had to use the application Adobe Photoshop. First, I had to create the button by creating a circle with the ellipse tool and then adding some layer styles to it. After that, I created another circle inside of the first one, but a bit smaller this time. I also added some layer styles to the smaller circle. The next steps were required in creating the aluminum effect. In order to that, a major step was using the filter to make the button appear a certain way. Afterwards, I added a power symbol shown in the middle of the button. To the symbol, I also added some layer styles to give it a desired effect. The last thing that needed to be done was to make the button glow. I had done this by using Window>Animation. In that option, I created frames that when played, the button would glow forever.

Assignment 26 (Test): This was an interesting and fun assignment which required me to showcase myself. In order to do so, I had to use the application Adobe Photoshop. First, I had to set up my canvas. Next, I had to draft out the foundations form my room. Then, I had to adjust the perspective. After that, I had to bring the room to life by adding various layer styles. Once I had done that, I created the lights by using the ellipse tool and adding some layer styles. Instead of doing these steps twice more, I just duplicated the light so I would have a total of three lights. After that, I had to create light shining from the ceiling lights. Then, I just added a front view, back view and a side view of me (one under each light) to make it appear as though it was shining on me. I saved my work as .psd and .jpeg.

Assignment 27: So far in this entire marking period, this assignment was the easiest. In order to do it, I had to use the application Microsoft Publisher. Basically, after the completion of it, it would represent an actual brochure that provides information about me. So, I created two slides divided into three different sections in each. On the second slide, all three sections included the different periods I had, the class I attended, who my teacher was and the duration of the period. I also added what I learned during each period. on the first slide, I did the same only for one section (the section all the way to the left). On the section all the way to the right (represented the front page of the brochure) I introduced MCSM and basic information about it (including the different periods of the day and the address, etc.). Then in  the middle section of the first slide, I wrote a little about myself on the top half and then wrote how I go to school everyday on the bottom half.

Multimedia Takeaway: For this semester from marking periods one to three, I used five different applications which are as follows: Microsoft Office PowerPoint; Microsoft Publisher; Google Sketch Up; Adobe Photoshop; Adobe Illustrator. Overall, I didn't dislike this class. However, I would sometimes get really frustrated by the assignments because I would get really confused and not know what to do. In Google Sketch Up I learned how to create 3D objects such as a gingerbread house by using tools such as the pen and push and pull. In Microsoft Publisher I learned how to create different advertising documents such as a brochure. In Adobe Photoshop, I learned how to make changes to pictures that were already in existence by using tools such as the paint bucket, rectangle tool, ellipse tool and even the magnetic lasso tool. In the Microsoft Office PowerPoint I basically added my assignments in jpeg format to the slides to print them out side by side. With Adobe Illustrator, I was able to create images of things such as a wireless phone and a flash drive.

2nd Marking Period Assignments tzs101-05

In assignment 11 (Flyer from scratch of "Club Flyer") I had to use Adobe Photoshop to make a flier of a club that I am a part of. I had to do so by applying my knowledge and experience with previous assignments such as (7-9). First, I opened a new document that was 5"x7" and then I went to layer and clicked new fill layer>gradient. I set up the gradient I wanted the way I wanted it to appear. I then added a few texts that explained the 5W's of the flier. For the title of the flier I did a photo-filled effect, and also did plastic texture effect and glass effect for other texts. I added two pictures to represent the club (Bowling) and saved my work as .psd and .jpeg.

In assignment 12 (Adding Texture via layers) I had to use Adobe Photoshop again, but this time I had to add a texture layer to a dress. First, I went to Google and found a picture of a dress. Then, I found a picture of a pattern/texture. Once doing so, I saved them and opened up the picture of the dress in Photoshop. I then followed the steps provided to me. Then, I made the canvas size larger and pasted the original picture of the dress next to the new one and pasted the pattern/texture I used in between the other two pictures. After I finished my work I saved it as .psd and .jpeg.

In order to do assignment 13 (Change one thing Poster from NYC Food Bank) I had to use the application Adobe Photoshop. First, I opened a new document. I then applied a gradient of my choice as shown above as my background. I then opened up a picture of an oven with cookies being baked on a tray. I then typed "Don't be shy, just bake a slice!" and placed it to the left of the picture. Next, I typed " Eat a slice of tomato now and have energy to walk a mile later" and placed it below the picture. After that, I typed " Don't change your life. Change one thing. Learn more at EATWISETEENS.ORG" below the previous text. Right below that on the right side I typed "#change one thing." On the bottom left corner, I placed the logo of the NYC food bank and added an outer glow effect to it. To the right of it, I typed in "The NYC FOOD BANK LOGO was used safely for educational purposes. The Copy Right Infringement was not intended. In the picture, there were cookies so I replaced them with tomatoes by using magnetic lasso to select them, cut them out and then placing a copy of a tomato on each cookie. Once doing so, I added an outer glow effect to the picture and saved my work as .jpg and .psd.
Assignment 14 (Jack O' Lantern) was fun and easy. In order to do this, I opened a new document in Adobe Photoshop with the size of 1280px by 1024px in RGB color mode at a resolution of 72pixels/inch. Once doing so, I painted the new background layer black with a paint bucket and a picture of a pumpkin. I removed the background by using the magnetic lasso. I inserted it on a new layer and added a layer style described in the website: http://designstacks.net/happy-halloween-ideas. With the pen tool set to drawing mode on shape layers in the option bar, I cut out some eyes, eyebrows, nose and a mouth. I then added the layer styles described in the website to all the shapes that I had now created. Afterwards, I chose Curlz MT font and an orange like color and typed in the words "THINK HALLOWEEN 2014." I then saved my work as .jpg and .psd.

Assignment 15 (Creating a "Painted" effect on wall) was believe it or not simple and easy. In order to do it, I had to use the application Adobe Photoshop. Once doing so, I opened a picture of a brick and another picture of a flag that I planned on using. I then selected and copied the image of the flag and pasted it on the picture of the brick wall. After that, I changed the blending mode from normal to hard light for the flag layer. I then selected the Brick Layer and hit CTRL+J to duplicate the layer. Afterwards, I moved the layer above the flag layer and hit CTRL+SHIFT+U to desaturate it. Next, with the cpoied layer still selected I went to filter>blur>gaussian blur. Then in the blur box, I entered 1px for the amount of blur I wanted. The next step was to hit SHIFT+CTRL+S to save the displacement created. Then, select the flag layer and click fliter>distort>displace. In the displacement dialog box I entered 6 for the horizontal and vertical scale and select the displacement map from earlier. Then select the Brick layer and in the Blending options I chose Hard Light and I set the opacity to 80%.

Assignment 15b (Creating a "Painted" effect on face) was believe it or not simple and easy. In order to do it, I had to use the application Adobe Photoshop. Once doing so, I opened a picture of myself and another picture of a flag that I planned on using. I then selected and copied the image of the flag and pasted it on the picture of myself. After that, I changed the blending mode from normal to hard light for the flag layer. I then selected the "My Pic" layer and hit CTRL+J to duplicate the layer. Afterwards, I moved the layer above the flag layer and hit CTRL+SHIFT+U to desaturate it. Next, with the copied layer still selected I went to filter>blur>Gaussian blur. Then in the blur box, I entered 1px for the amount of blur I wanted. The next step was to hit SHIFT+CTRL+S to save the displacement created. Then, select the flag layer and click filter>distort>displace. In the displacement dialog box I entered 6 for the horizontal and vertical scale and select the displacement map from earlier. Then select the "My Pic" layer and in the Blending options I chose Hard Light and I set the opacity to 80%.

Assignment 16 (Smart Filtering with Motion Blur) as shown above was one of the quickest and easiest assignments of the 2nd marking period so far. In order to do this, I had to use Adobe Photoshop. In the application, I had to open up the picture of the cheetah running as a smart object (click on file and go down the options). I then applied a filter to the smart object: filter>blur>motion blur (enter -8 for angle and 25 for distance in the settings). After doing so, I added another filter: filter>noise>median, however I turned the visibility off because I did not like the way the picture appeared. In other words, I only used the first filter rather than both. I then clicked the mask thumbnail and brush tool (soft edge brush). With the foreground color set to black, I painted over the cheetah so it won't be blurred. Once doing so, I saved my work as .psd and .jpg.

Assignment 17 (Quick Mask) was quite simple and straight forward. In order to do this, you had to use the application Adobe Photoshop. First, I found a picture of any person I wanted to work with on Google images and saved it. I then opened up the picture in Photoshop. I then clicked the zoom tool and enlarged the eyes area since it was the area I wanted to work on. I set the foreground color to white and the background color to black. Next, I clicked the the quick mask mode button and then the  brush tool. Then, I painted over the girl's pupils with a selected brush size of my choice and a red translucent mask appeared above it. Afterwards, I turned off quick mask mode, pressed select and then inverse. Then with the paint bucket, I painted the girl's eyes blue. In the layers section, I changed the setting of normal to overlay to make it more realistic. Once doing so, I saved my work as .psd and.jpg.

Assignment 18 (Soft Filtering Skin tones) similarly to 17 was quick and simple. First, I opened up a picture (of a random person I found on Google images) in Adobe Photoshop. I then clicked and dragged the background layer over the new layer and clicked filter. Once clicking on filter I clicked convert for smart filters and pressed ok. I then clicked filter again and selected blur and then Gaussian blur and set the radius slider to 5. I then changed the option from normal to screen in the layers section and then added a layer mask. Next, I clicked the brush tool, chose a soft-edged brush and clicked on the airbrush thumbnail. I then changed the opacity to 40% (top tool bar) and then painted over the eyes, the mouth, the hair and the background leaving only the face and neck glowing. In the layers section, I changed the opacity to 70% to change the brightness. I saved my work as .psd and .jpg.

Assignment 19 (USB Drive) was different from all the rest due to the fact that I used the application Adobe Illustrator rather than Adobe Photoshop this time. First, I created a new document o 550 x 550 px and then picked up the Rectangle Tool (M) and clicked on the page. I input the values 175 px for width and 300 px for height in the area indicated. I then selected the rectangle and clicked the button beside the align controls located on top of the page and selected "Align to Artboard" option. I clicked the "Horizontal Align Center" and "Vertical Align Center" buttons. To create the bottom part of the image I selected the Ellipse Tool (L), clicked anywhere on the screen and set the width to 175px and the height to 50px. In order to align the ellipse to the rectangle, I had to select View and then Smart Guides. Using the Selection Tool (V), I dragged the bottom of the rectangle until two green smart guides (lines) appeared. Using "Pathfinder" I selected both shapes. To fill in the shape, I selected it, opened the gradient window and applied the gradient to the shape and followed the instructions given to me in the website: http://www.tutorialboard.net/create-realistic-pendriveas-adobe-illustrator. Once doing so, I set the stroke to none and using the Rectangle Tool, I drew two more rectangles with a size of 158 x 12px as the first one and 118 x 8px for the second one. I then clicked effects>warp>arc and set the vertical distortion to 10% and applied it to both rectangles. For the most part, I continued using the gradient tool, the shape tool and the stroke tool. Once completing my work, I saved it as .AI and .PDF.

Assignment 20 (Wireless Phone Test): In order to do this assignment, I needed to use the application Adobe Illustrator. However, this was a lot more complicated than all the other assignments I had previously. This was mainly because I was not all to familiar with the application, especially since I had only used it for one other assignment. Overall, I had to use the shape tool to create shapes for the phone such as the buttons, To make layers of a particular shape, I had to click object>path>offset path. Other tools I had to use for this test was the gradient tool, stroke tool and even pathfinder.

COMPARING and CONTRASTING Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator
Although both of these applications are quite different, they still have similar features. For example, they both use the stroke tool, gradient tool and the text tool. In the Illustrator however, you could options such as pathfinder. Basically, Photoshop mainly revolves around the use of images and making creative projects out of the picture (such as filtering and even making people appear a certain way-making a person's face appear brighter). On the other hand, Illustrator is mainly for the purpose of creating your own image/picture such as a USB flash drive, a wireless phone or even a living room.
